When I first saw Matilija poppies I heard them called the fried egg plant because of the appearence of the flowers.
We have planted Matilija poppies along our road because they are good at holding the soil, are native so they need no watering once they are established and they look wonderful, having a 3 month blooming season and the largest flower of any plant native to California.
