About this Show
In the summer of 2000 my wife Bettine and I spent a month traveling
around Alaska. Hardly enough time to scratch the surface of such
a grand state but even that surface has many wonders.
During the trip I enthusiastically photographed all I could, mostly
the landscape but also some of the wild life and people. From
those photographs I have put together this show.
I have arranged this show in a loosely chronological order, showing
a few of the photogenic scenes that we were fortunate to see.
I have also included a few photographs of amusing incidents, interesting
scenes typical or perhaps atypical of Alaska, animals and personal
interest that the general viewer may enjoy.
We flew by commercial airline to Fairbanks and then, for the next
part of the trip, we traveled with Bettine's cousin, Gerard Swartz
and his wife Peggy. Gerard and Peggy have lived in Alaska for
over 45 years, he is a retired professor of Biology from the University
of Alaska at Fairbanks and they know Alaska well. We traveled
with them by RV south to Valdez and west to Seward. They also
flew us in their small plane as far north as the Yukon River.
Bettine and I left Fairbanks by train, and then bus, into Denalli
National Park where we spent 3 days, mostly walking but also an
hour of the most spectacular flying, flightseeing, around Mt.
McKinley.
Next we went by bus and train and airplane to Juno Alaska where
we met a boat, the Sea Bird, for a wet but wonderful week on the
inside passage.
I hope you too will enjoy the trip, just click ENTER to start.
