I was in a group show of seven photographers at The Corridan Gallery, in Santa Barbara. The show, Sojourn: Fine Art Photographs of Distance Places featured photographs from around the world. The show was currated by William Fedderson, director and co-owner of the gallery. The show ran from April 18 to June 3, 2007.
But, of course, good fine art photography is its own reward, whatever or wherever the subject matter. In the most memorable images of the show, an intuitive process of depicting a scene and a culture and the unaccountable atmosphere of art come together in an unexpected, symbiotic accord.
Lawrence Wallin's images from Venice and Budapest, for instance, are fine and exotic, but he reaches the high point with "Machu Picchu Afternoon," in which the ancient site is caught in an eerie, present-tense clarity of sunlight. The audience is aware if antiquity and the heat of the present moment.
William Fedderson choose my photographs in this show from photographs on this web site. You can see the various photograph shows and make your own selection from these web shows; Machu Picchu, in Peru. Venice and Bergamo, Italy. Budapest, Hungary. Prague, in the Czech Republic. Ely Cathedral in England and, in the USA, Alaska. William also choose a photograph from the Santa Barbara back country area, Steelhead Trout Stream.
